New Patient Appointment
How to book your appointment:
Obtain a referral from your General Practitioner or Specialist.
Your referral does not need to be addressed to a specific psychiatrist.
Email your referral to referrals@empoweredmindsclinic.com.
Our admin team will contact you to schedule an appointment with the next available psychiatrist.
We are excited to announce that we have three psychiatrists starting with us over the next two months. Please see our ‘about’ and ‘fees’ pages for further information about each practitioner.
Important information about your appointment:
Full payment is processed three days prior to your appointment. This will be processed from the payment method you have entered in your intake form. Please ensure that you have the available funds in your account. We do not accept cash, cheques, or bank transfers.
All payments will incur an additional small processing fee, payable by the patient.
Please ensure that your referral will be in-date and valid at the time of your scheduled appointment. Without a valid referral, you will be unable to claim a Medicare rebate.
It is your responsibility to provide us with a referral by email referrals@empoweredmindsclinic.com. Receipt of late referrals cannot be backdated.
Empowered Minds Clinic will process the Medicare claim on your behalf, and this will be paid into your nominated account.

We offer 3 appointment types for New Patients:
One-Off Consultation
New Patient Appointment
New Patient Private
One-off Consultation
In order to receive a one-off consultation you must provide a referral that specifically requests for a 291 / 92435 assessment.
What is a 291 / 92435 assessment?
1 Hour appointment with a psychiatrist for a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis.
You will receive an intake form 3 weeks prior to your scheduled appointment which forms part of your assessment.
The psychiatrist prepares a management plan which your referring practitioner follows including ongoing care and medication prescription.
This management plan is intended to be carried out by the referring practitioner over the subsequent 12 months.
Therefore, you do not require regular follow ups with a psychiatrist.
*Please note: If the referral concerns are complex and not appropriate for the referring practitioner to provide ongoing management, you will require follow up from the psychiatrist.
New Patient Private
Please select this appointment type if you are not registered with Medicare and you are not eligible for Medicare rebates. This appointment structure will follow the ‘New Patient Appointment’ structure explained on this page.

New Patient Appointment
This appointment type is for New Patients to our clinic who require assessment and follow up from a psychiatrist and cannot be managed by their General Practitioner. Patients who have an existing diagnosis and require treatment through our clinic will still need to be seen as a new patient.
What is a new patient assessment?
1 hour appointment with a psychiatrist for a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis.
You will receive an intake form 3 weeks prior to your scheduled appointment which forms part of your assessment.
Your psychiatrist may request for additional information following your first and second appointment including observations from your GP, collateral information from your family, friends, teachers or other health professionals.
You will require follow up appointments (standard 30 minutes) with your psychiatrist for ongoing management.
The frequency of the follow up appointments is dependent on the referral concerns.
Below is a guide only:
ADHD - Monthly follow ups until a treatment dose is established. The frequency is then extended to 6 monthly.
Anxiety Disorders / Mood Disorders - Likely review 6-8 weeks after assessment. Follow ups can then extend further or you can choose to transfer your care to your GP.
Children - Likely ongoing management with a psychiatrist.
Complex presentations - Ongoing management with a psychiatrist.
Once a treatment dose is established (effective treatment with no side effects), you can request to be transferred to your GP for ongoing management.
Once you have booked your initial assessment, we would advise for you to book your first follow up appointment to ensure that you do not need to wait too long between appointments. This can be scheduled as a ‘current patient’ through our website only once you have already booked your first assessment.
